For me, 2025 has definitely become the year of Barcelona. It wasn't planned or something I had deliberately chosen; it simply turned out that way. The reason was that my daughter left for Barcelona at the end of August to start her internship. In the months leading up to her departure, everything revolved around planning and preparations. Fortunately, Barcelona is a city I truly enjoy visiting, so I gladly took every opportunity to explore it with my camera.
I have already been to Barcelona three times this year, and there will be a fourth visit as well. Every trip has felt different: the first was filled with emotion as we said goodbye, the second with a mixture of pride and curiosity, and I am sure the last one will feel like coming home to a city that has become increasingly familiar.
As a photographer, I also made the most of every opportunity. Barcelona is a dream city for anyone who loves light, lines and life. The breathtaking view from the Bunkers del Carmel, with the city stretching out like a mosaic below. The magical shapes of the Sagrada Família, the vibrant La Rambla, the beautiful cathedral, Gaudí's organic architectural masterpieces, the lively beaches, and the winding streets full of colour and character... every corner of the city tells its own story.
Perhaps that is exactly why I love Barcelona so much. It is the combination of the climate, the atmosphere, the boutique shops and restaurants, the music filling the streets and the unmistakable zest for life that can be felt everywhere. It is a city that lives, breathes and continues to inspire.
When my daughter returns to the Netherlands after her internship at the end of January next year, I will probably not visit this incredible city as often as I have this year. Even so, I hope my love for Barcelona will remain and that I will return from time to time. Fortunately, I will always have the wonderful photographs I captured in this vibrant Mediterranean city, and I am delighted to share them with you.
